The Painting
Workshop with
Keith Gunderson Supply List
The workshop
has two components, Painting in Oils and Painting with Pastel Chalks.
The student is of course free to choose their medium, although class
concepts will be demonstrated in these two mediums. Plein-Aire painting
will be the focus, weather permitting, yet classroom demonstration
and still life exercises will also be part of the workshop. A class
supply list then will reflect both these contingencies.
Plein-Aire
Oil Painting
For outdoor
painting, the best design for an easel is one that will resist wind
gusts along with the ability to hold the canvas at eye level. If the
artist intends to hike in to spots to gain access to motifs off the
beaten track, portability becomes an issue.
A sturdy
wooden paint box , either the box component of the french easel or
a seperate box with hinged lid to store brushes, paints, etc.
Two palette
options are given to choose from. The comprehensive palette and a
smaller five color palette.
A strategy
for palettes is discussed. This will depend on the type of easel and
painting setup you are accustomed to.
Recommendations
for types and numbers of brushes.
A survey
of different types of oil painting surfaces , how to prepare and where
to find them.
Pastel Painting
A description
of what kind of pastels are required, along with recommendations for
how many it takes to assemble a starter set.
Types of
paper and boards are discussed.
